Water is the sacred source of life and the carrier of the soul in all religions. Awareness on the sacredness of healthy water will be fundamental.
The concept of Living Cycles has been developed by Brigitte van Baren, Living Peace Projects designed to ensure sufficient fresh drinking water and energy for the future.
The construction and included sustainable techniques of this compound has been developed in close cooperation with Jorn Beltman, Beltmand Studio, engineers of IHE Delft Institute , Claire Furlong, Abidemi Tolulope, Viviana Franco Hernandez and Bas Hendriksen, Rotary Scholarship.
Living Cycles is a compound providing drinking water, energy and sanitation. It educates children and adults on sanitation, solar energy and the harvesting and purification of rain water. The users are educated by the initiators of this project and the specialists of the IHE Delft by means of accessible and understandable videos, lectures, children’s books and manuals. Local users are educated by the teachers affiliated with the monasteries and schools. The water purification system is low-tech, and can be maintained, local people.
Living Cycles is an oasis of possibilities. Offering drinking water, sanitation, energy, fertility and especially a safe and lively hub, it has low maintenance and a long lifespan. Living Cycles contributes not only functionally but especially socially, by offering a safe space and providing education.
