Water for all: action is needed
August 2016, a group of spiritual leaders from all around the world gathered in Istanbul. This meeting was initiated by Professor Johannes Witteveen, former managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and leader of the International Sufi Movement. He has dedicated his life to bringing loving kindness and harmony into the world; something that was equally important for the leaders who were present.
This meeting was the start of a unique friendship between leaders from all kinds of religious, spiritual, and indigenous traditions such as Buddhists, Sufi’s, Hindu’s, Sikhs, Muslims, Catholics, Jews, Inuit, Maasai, and Indians. These spiritual leaders agreed that we need to collaborate to tackle global issues which threaten world peace.
Water is the source of all life. In less than one week, we would die without drinking water. Yet in many places around the world there is a lack of clean water. Many water sources in developing nations are polluted or exhausted. And climate change has led to increased droughts, or flash flooding. Quite simply, without water, life on earth would not exist. It is therefore that pilgrimages have been made to sacred places and sacred springs.
Mission
Our objective is to raise awareness on the importance of our sacred water sources by circulating handmade Living Water Drops. Each drop contains water mixed from sacred springs, and has been brought together by spiritual leaders from around the world.

Merging waters
In February 2019 we were invited to the world’s largest spiritual gathering, The Kumbha Mela. Over 40 million pilgrims gather at the banks of the Holy Hindu rivers in India. Out there in India we were more than ever confronted with the importance of clean and healthy water for all living beings.
Led by H.H. Pujya Swami Chidanand we collected sacred water from the Ganga, Yamuna and Sarasvati.
We brought the water from these three sources to the Tibetan Monastery Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat in the Indian Himalayas. H.H. the 12th Chamgon Kenting Tai Situpa chaired the Water for Life conference, where spiritual leaders met with engineers and volunteers to develop projects for improving water quality and education. At Palpung Sherabling Monastic Seat we merged the three water sources we collected with water from seven other sources: the Indus river, Karnali river, Sutlej river, Brahmaputra river, Mississippi, Rhine river and Imeq; the life-giving water of Greenland.
